HJB Marine started in the fall of 1994. Owner, Hugo Beutel, has over 20 years in the marine and yachting industry now. Beginning with 7 years in the yachting industry on the east coast as chief engineer on 110 ft to 140 ft private and charter vessels, then moving here to the northwest in 1989 to work for local boat yard building custom boats.
HJB Marine goal is to give its customers personalized service, and provide them with a full service of mobile operations. HJB Marine can perform a range of services including basic maintenance, custom fiberglass work, custom metal work, engine re-power, bonding system troubleshooting and electrical - new and repair work. Plus starting soon a marine retail and surplus store.
In the fall 2001, Hugo Beutel started another company called Tacoma Cats, doing custom catamaran construction in both sail and power. His first custom boat is a 39 ft sailing cat now under construction. As of February 2006, Tacoma cats became a part of HJB Marine and is no longer a separate company. Construction of the boat is moving along. Most of 2006 was spent on body work, filling, and sanding inside and out. Currently, in 2007, work is focused on coloring the boat - gel coating the decks and interior, painting the hulls. Color work is anticipated to be finished around the end of July. The installation of composite granite countertops has also been started.
